Side Gusseted Pouch
Side Gusset Coffee Bags
Although the side gusset bag is an older configuration for bags, it's still an incredibly popular choice for the coffee industry. Named for the side gussets, or folds, that are present on either side of the bag, the gussets expand when the package is filled with coffee beans, tea leaves, or any other product, the weight of the contents holds the gusseted bags upright, and the high barrier protects the contents inside from damage.

Additionally, our line of side gusset bags can be designed with one way degassing valves. This will keep the coffee fresh since it allows accumulated oxygen to exit from the bag without exposing the coffee inside to moisture, water vapor, or the elements. If you're designing gusset coffee bags, specifically, one way degassing valves are an absolute must. Connect with us to discuss adding a valve to your bag.
Benefits of side gusseted bags
When it comes to side gusset bags, there are a few key advantages, including:
Fully printable- Our side gusset bags are fully printable, meaning you can customize every part of the bag, from the top to the bottom and all the sides!
Printing flexibility- Gusseted bags can be printed digitally or plate printed, giving you the flexibility to choose what makes sense for you and your design.
Only require 1 set of plates Since side gusset bags only require one set of print plates, they're a more cost effective option than some others.

Limitations of side gusseted bags
No Bottom Gusset
High barrier side gusseted bags have a few limitations worth considering before committing to this configuration. Just like a Quad Seal pouch, this pouch style lacks a bottom gusset and thus does not have the stability some pouch applications need to stay upright on a shelf. Instead of a bottom gusset the bag is simply folded over on the bottom. You can't expect the same functionality from this pouch configuration as you might get from a other style of gusseted bags Doyen.
Not compatible with standard press to close zippers
Another limitation of this configuration is that it is not compatible with standard press to close zippers. So while you might use high barrier films in your pouch's film structure such as our CareFoil material which contains a layer of aluminum foil. After the consumer has opened the bags, your re-closure options are limited to a Tin-Tie or a sticker.
